About
Michel Mainil has a double personality. Behind his affable, friendly and attentive façade there lies a jazzman. A bona-fide, a purist. A personality that totally explodes and held nothing back on his first album, "Water and Other Games", released in 2004.
Together with Alain Rochette (piano), José Bedeur (double bass) and Antoine Cirri (drums), he went back into studio to record this second CD: "Between the Two Solstices", but this time as a septet. Chris Joris, percussionist with 1001 sounds to his name and Cécile Broché, the talented violinist that doesn't choose between Bartok and Jimi Hendrix, joined in the fun.
Then there is DJ Landzar, playing both on the tracks and after the concerts. You'll find no standards in this project, only original compositions from the group members, Erwin Vann and Eloi Baudimont. Michel Mainil, ever the perfect leader, knows when to lean in and when to stand back to give his musicians room. No superfluous notes, the respect of a tradition earned over his long experience as a sideman in Belgium and abroad.
