About

Under the baton of Richard Rousselet, the West Music Club has recorded a homage to the iconic producer Marc Moulin and his jazz fusion project Placebo. Playing swing since 1969, this is the first time the big band has explored the repertoire of this mythic 70s band.

Created in 1969, the West Music Club is one of Europe’s oldest jazz big bands. For the past 30 years it has been conducted by Richard Rousselet, a key figure in Belgium’s jazz scene.

After a double album (CD + DVD) released in 2014 (“Natural”, Igloo Records), the big band is back with this surprising homage to Placebo, the jazz fusion group created in the early seventies by the pianist and composer Marc Moulin. Richard Rousselet was one of the members of this legendary band, playing at all their concerts and recordings - 3 LPs that were recently re-released. He also worked with Marc Moulin for the albums “Sam Suffy” and “Picnic”.

30 later, Rousselet decided to play the Placebo repertoire again, entrusting the arrangements to the West Music Club’s bassist Thomas Pechot. He respected the band’s spirit while preserving the energy, sound and swing that are the hallmarks of the big band. According to Pechot, Placebo’s music allows lots of freedom thanks to its distinctive rhythms and melodic lines.

The West Music Club is part of the long tradition of jazz big bands, while remaining totally open to contemporary formats. Playing Placebo is an example of this openness, as Marc Moulin’s music has not aged in the least. In fact, it is more contemporary than ever.

The live concerts are accompanied by original audio-visual documents about the group Placebo.
