About
Karim Gharbi is a volcanic poet whose conscious texts bring us to a world of contrasts, somewhere between disillusion and seduction. His debut album is “Poisson d’or” (goldfish).
Singer, musician and dancer, Gharbi juggles with the universal madness of very different worlds with virtuosity. Karim is a composite material. Being a chameleon means that spectators at his shows discover an off-beat cabaret, with impressive vocal and physical agility. “Poisson d’or” strips back news items and matters of the heart. It offers a trip to the heart of the intimate, where Karim shares his uncensored and occasionally mad vision of the world. He tells tales of family, revolt, fragility and war, with freedom and derision, humour and a tender eye.
Orchestrated by Gil Mortio, this first album offers a wide palette of sounds from a range of instruments (electric, acoustic, string quartet). Yet musically, it is very much built on clear indie pop rock influences.
“Explosive and sparkling, powerful and enraged, ‘Poisson d’or’ is a great album that bursts from someone possessed for whom art is nothing less than indispensable, for whom storytelling is a necessity, and whose presence is illuminated by a surprising and painful lucidity - or boundless derision - at each moment.” (Le fond de l’air est french, V. Fantinel)
