Félix Zurstrassen

From 2005 to 2010, he studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Michel Hatzigeorgiou and obtained his diploma with great distinction. He then turned more particularly to the double bass for a few years. After a year of study with Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, he graduated in 2013 at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel in the class of French double bassist Christophe Wallemme.

Félix Zurstrassen is a musician of great versatility with the ability to easily adapt to the specificities of many genres and musical styles. He quickly integrated the musical landscape of Belgian jazz as a sideman on numerous projects from diverse and varied backgrounds. This is how he has become one of the most appreciated Belgian bass players of his generation. As proof of these words, Félix Zurstrassen was awarded the Sabam Jazz Award “Young Talent” in 2017 “because he serves as a point of convergence and rallying point for the entire young Belgian jazz scene by contributing to the main projects which carry. »

In 2017, Félix Zurstrassen delivered his first personal project, surrounding himself with the famous Brazilian guitarist Nelson Veras and a long-time partner, the talented Antoine Pierre on drums. The repertoire carefully composed by Félix Zurstrassen sits at the crossroads of modern jazz and contemporary jazz. The album “NOVA” by Félix Zurstrassen will be released in March 2020 on the Igloo label with special guest alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder, the new star of Dutch jazz.
