Guillaume Vierset

Biographie

After studying at the Brussels Conservatory and attending numerous masterclasses (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Moreno, Jonathan Kreisberg…), along with several awards in the Belgian jazz scene (Best Soloist, Octave de la musique 2015, Sabam Jazz Award 2013…), Guillaume Vierset has established himself as an original and unconventional guitarist, earning a solid reputation through his albums and leaving a distinctive mark on the Belgian music landscape.

With each new album, Guillaume demonstrates an increasingly remarkable audacity, and his work consistently treads the fine line of jazz.

In 2015, he released his first album New Feel (Igloo Records) with the LG Jazz Collective, a septet bringing together the young guard of Belgian jazz, which quickly became one of the most

prominent groups in the new Belgian jazz scene. The album, written and arranged by the leader, was a great success and won an Octave de la musique (“Best Jazz Album”) in 2015.

Two years later, he released Strange Deal (Igloo Records, 2018), the second album of the septet. Acclaimed by both Belgian and international critics, the group gained momentum and became a reference point in the jazz world. La Capitale described it as a “breath of fresh air in the Belgian jazz landscape.”

In 2016, Guillaume presented his project Harvest Group, whose debut album Songwriter was nominated for “Best Jazz Album 2016.” This record, with its nostalgic and intimate tones, navigates between jazz and folk. Le Soir went so far as to call him “the songwriter of Belgian jazz.”

In 2019, with Harvest Group, Guillaume took his music to the next level: he sought new sounds, new horizons, new textures. Inspired by a journey through the American West, he released Nacimiento Road, an album where the folk influences are more clearly emphasized. A tour followed, with standout performances at the Gent Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Mithra Jazz Festival, Comblain Jazz Festival, and more. With this album, Guillaume solidified his reputation as a bold composer and guitarist who is unafraid to blend styles: jazz, rock, folk, and improvised music.

“A modern jazz in today’s folk…”

In 2022, Guillaume released Lightmares, the third album from Harvest Group, a more enigmatic recording that takes listeners between dream and reality. The album’s release and accompanying tour culminated in a sold-out concert at Flagey.

In 2019, after a carte blanche at Le Marni, Guillaume formed the band EDGES, with Jim Black, Anders Christensen and Dorian Dumont.

In 2023, EDGES released their debut album The End of the F**ing World, a true punch to the Belgian jazz scene. With a top-tier international lineup, the guitarist transports us, with poetry and nonchalance, into a musical universe at the crossroads of jazz and progressive rock. The band explores role-playing in the intersections of rock, jazz, contemporary noisy sounds, and dissonant sonic flirts. The subsequent tour took them through France, Romania, Denmark, and the most prestigious venues in Belgium (Reflexor, Ancienne Belgique, etc.)

The birth of EDGES marked a decisive turning point in Guillaume Vierset‘s career, creating a true surprise. The press was unanimous in its praise for this musical audacity:

L’Avenir (BE):

“Guillaume’s guitar may have never sung so beautifully, both despair and hope, with a broad, open

sound, sometimes reverberated to give even more space. Impressive.”

LARSEN (BE):

“Very rock in spirit, jazz in the approach to the guitar, this instrumental disregards genres and will

give you quite a punch (…)”

JazzMania (BE):

“These four tracks offer progressive rock that loves to take detours into territories characteristic of

jazz.”

In 2023, EDGES released two live albums: Live at Deux Ours and Live In Paris, featuring Jozef Dumoulin and Antoine Pierre.

In 2025, Guillaume announced a new EDGES album, Morning Mr. Protocol, which pushes the boundaries of the genre—a groundbreaking, unconventional record with a sharp critique of society.

Outside of his work in the jazz sphere, Guillaume is also the guitarist for SHARKO, a band led by David Bartholomé, also a guitarist for Typh Barrow, and involved in other projects outside of jazz. He also leads a double musical life with his solo project IAMWILL, an enchanting folk-indie project filled with poetic lyrics. Influenced by Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Bon Iver, and Neil Young, his familial musical heritage shines through in intimate, soft, and nostalgic folk.
