Jean-Paul Estiévenart

Biographie

Jean-Paul Estiévenart’s curiosity and openness make of him a musician that is constantly searching. Born in Belgium in 1985, his grandfather taught him the basics of playing trumpet. He went on to study the instrument at the St Ghislain music academy for 10 years. This is when he discovered jazz and decided to play it full-time.

Very quickly, he became a key figure in the Belgian and international jazz scene. His journey already has a few milestones, such as being awarded the Django d’Or award in 2006 (in the young talent category), representing Belgium in the European big band as part of the European Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2007 and being awarded the prix Octaves de la Musique award 2009 with his album as a quartet, “4in1”. Amongst the young generation of musicians, Estiévenart impresses people by his keen ability to improvise, his subtlety and energy. Over ten years on the road have seen him play with figures such as Enrico Pieranuzzi, Nathalie Loriers, Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Logan Richardson, Dré Pallemaerts, Joe Lovano, Noel Gallagher, the Brussels jazz Orchestra, Perico Sambeat, Maria Schneider and many more. He has recorded many albums and plays in a wide variety of projects. In fact, Jean-Paul Estiévenart has become one of the most in-demand trumpet players today. He is now confirming his talent in an amazing trio with Sam Gertsmans on double bass and Antoine Pierre on drums. Their first album ‘Wanted’ was particularly well received by the press and jazz fans.
